"Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another..." - Proverbs 27:17 ESV
With all these Korean entertainment scandals arising, it really makes me think and reflect on human nature. And the more I think about it, the more amazed I am. These groups have trained and prepared for their future together for several years and have become like friends and even family. The fact that they can just forget everything they have gone through and simply put their own reputation and future before friendship and sisterhood/brotherhood is just mind-blowing.
It makes me realize that the reality of it all is that one's well-being overpowers all friendship and relationship. Even though you may know someone your whole life, if their actions or decisions are getting in the way of your success or well-being, you will do whatever it takes to put your needs and desires first. And I am sure that's not the case for every single person, but in the end, even if we try to deny it, in some way, shape, or form, we are all about ourselves. And I am totally guilty of it too, but it really makes me wonder more about the connection between relationships, human nature, and life as a whole.
Humans by default are all selfish creatures. That’s just human nature. But whatever happened to the little things in life. Little things like saying, "how are you?" back to someone who asks the same to you. Or the little things like checking up on someone you haven't seen in forever. Or replying to a person when they message you. Or simply asking someone how their day is going. Or going up to someone you don't really know and meeting them. Whatever happened to just simply caring about another person’s day? What is the meaning of a relationship? What is the definition of a true relationship? People need relationships in order to survive this life. That’s just it. Relationships are so important in this life. It really makes me happy to talk to someone I haven’t talked to in a while. And it really makes me happy when I can completely just be myself around them and the way we talk is as if we had been talking all along. It really surprises me how people can just talk about themselves without wondering about the person who asked them in the first place. It is something so small and so petty, but a lot of times we do get distracted by our own thoughts and lives. And it's okay to share and be open with others, but it's also nice to have a two way conversation. And like I said earlier, it is such a small thing, so I'm sure it's easy to forget about. But it's the small things that people focus on...As humans, we have all done this before, intentionally or not. It really amazes me how people can be so focused on their own lives, their own problems, and their own pleasures. Are we living in a time where people are not willing to make the initiative to talk to someone? Or connect with someone? Three simple words. “How are you…?” People don’t understand how much these words can affect someone’s day.
As a Christian, the older I get and the deeper I go into my faith, God continues to remind me how important relationships are in our spiritual lives. As cheesy as it sounds, we are really all in this together. We need people around us to help us in our journey of faith. Although we need God's help and guidance in everything, there is a reason why accountability and fellowship is so important. We can't go on this journey by ourselves. We need to reach out and be there for each other as fellow brothers and sisters. You'd be surprised at how God can use someone around you in the most unexpected ways. Instead of looking up or down, we need to look left and right to the brothers and sisters around us. And honestly, a lot of times, it is easier said than done. But even when its hard to reach out to someone or connect with them, its all about humbling yourself and taking that step of faith. In this life, ALL people just want to be loved and accepted.
And I guarantee someone will appreciate it. You will definitely change someone's day.
"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works..."
-Hebrews 10:24 ESV
